Web Designer

Robert is a fourth-year student majoring in Computer Science. He has a great passion for mathematics and programming. Robert’s job for the project was to put together the website. He has well over 10 years of experience in programming with procedural and object-oriented languages, but has never touched any sort of web design. He took this opportunity to learn more about the world of web design as well as learning all about digital humanities.

Sarah
Project Manager

Sarah is a second-year student majoring in Design Media Arts and minoring in Digital Humanities. Her background is in marketing, entrepreneurship, and graphic design, but she is very interested in pursuing a career in UX Design and Product Management. As the project manager, she oversaw the overall progress of the project by creating and submitting documents as a team, setting deadlines, and ensuring harmonious and effective communication between team members. Other than managing the flow of the project, she also contributed to drafting the narrative, critiquing the data, and analyzing data visualizations.

Ruyi
Data Specialist

Ruyi is a third-year student majoring in Data Theory and minoring in Digital Humanities. Her background is mainly in mathematics and data science; she is interested in obtaining a master degree in data science or machine learning and a career in related areas. As the data specialist of the team, she worked on extracting, cleaning, and combining all data used for the project, and she also provided a comprehensive analysis to the observations and contributed to the critiques of the dataset. In addition to the data analysis, she generated the visualization for “Correlation between Airbnb density and the socioeconomic status of each neighborhood” and “Variation of Airbnb price across different neighborhoods”, and worked on the following analysis of these research questions. She also developed the timeline that focuses on the historical and social background for the project and aided the narrative formation.

Maggie
Editor

Maggie is a third-year student majoring in Computer Science. Her background is mainly in software engineering, where she has experience with web development as well as full-stack engineering. She is passionate about applying her technical skills to real-world information and data to create positive social impact, something she hopes to explore with digital humanities. In addition to working with the team on group assignments, as the editor for the project, she made sure that the project as a whole was cohesive in terms of design, organization, and writing style.

Maham
Data Visualization Specialist

Maham is a fourth-year student who is majoring in Cognitive Science with a Specialization in Computing and minoring in Digital Humanities. She is hoping to pursue a career in UX Research and Design and obtain a Masters in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). As the Data Visualization Specialist for the team, she oversaw visualizations made through a variety of programs including Tableau and RAW Graphs. Throughout the quarter, she deeply familiarized herself with these tools while also collaborating with other team members in representing the data to answer the overall research questions.

Content Developer

Lily is a third-year student majoring in Civil Engineering with a technical breadth concentration in Digital Humanities. Although her background is in engineering, she also has a passion for art and design. She is experienced in multidisciplinary design work, including graphic design, digital mediums, painting, woodworking, and some web design. She hopes to create positive environmental and societal impacts by pursuing areas in structural engineering and creative industries. As the content developer of the team, she oversaw the authoring of the site’s main narrative and ensured that the data visualizations and maps integrated nicely with the written content.
